Renaturalisation of Avenida del Oeste
Valencia, Spain
Burgos & Garrido Arquitectos
Three strategic operations: “reorganise”, “reduce” and “re-green”. Organise and contain road traffic, leaving generous space for pedestrians and cyclists; reduce visual noise, mainly by using a material - golden and sanguine limestone - in pavements and vertical cladding, which show traces of history; Renaturalise the street on three levels: on the ground, with green draining pavements; higher up, with flowering pergolas that provide shade and camouflage the parking facilities; and groups of evergreen trees where possible.
