Restoration of the River Tagus in Talavera

Toledo, Spain
Burgos & Garrido Arquitectos + ARUP
See drawings

The main objective of the project is to recover and strengthen the landscape, cultural and economic identity of Talavera de la Reina, consolidating it as the gateway to its region. In order to compartmentalise the execution of the works without compromising the overall vision, the project is divided into nine preliminary projects, eight of which are interventions in the territory and the last of which consists of the creation of a website for the Tierras de Talavera Park. Based on respect for the river and its ecosystems, the proposal includes the fundamental design criterion of maintaining the current water level of the river without altering the levels of the existing weirs, which would compromise the river's hydraulic regime. Activities that future users of the park could carry out have also been planned.
