Turia Estuary Park
The mouth park presents a great opportunity to complete the Turia Gardens in their connection with the sea. The head park marks the starting point of the green route that runs along the old riverbed, whose garden is materialised along the different sections that border the historic city. The route currently ends at the City of Arts and Sciences, with the open-air canal remaining as the last section available for connection to the port and future urban developments in the area.
The intervention aims to consolidate the green delta that begins on the outskirts of the city, strengthening the ecological corridor in its maritime connection. The completion of the park aims to restore the image of the river for the city, ending the linear route at a large artificial urban beach that will serve as a new meeting point for citizens, acting as a counterpoint to the main park and offering an alternative on the other side of the city, inviting visitors to complete the walk.
The renaturalisation of the canal, as well as the creation of new habitats around the ‘great beach’, will allow the lagoon to have a natural extension that will enable the restoration of the seafront from a social and environmental point of view, consolidating a new green axis in a south-north direction beyond Malvarrosa beach.
