Cañaveral Housing
The complex is located in El Cañaveral, a neighbourhood in the south-east of Madrid, and consists of 43 double-height semi-detached single-family homes. Based on a U-shaped conceptual system, which achieves optimal sunlight exposure and elaborate visual relationships, a method of grouping homes has been systematised in which all the pieces are valuable. Each one is composed of a strictly organised system of functional relationships, with a wide range of cross-cutting dialogues with the general layout, thanks to set-back gardens that provide privacy. The project, designed in response to the physical limitations of the environment, is presented as a grouping of five independent volumes, which provide a domestic and urban scale, allowing the common interior space to be related to the dwellings and the public thoroughfare, in a play of visuals and perspectives. The typological repetition and systematic construction of the envelope translate into constructive rationality, which, together with the organisation and centralisation of the communal elements, multiply the value of the building and allow for economic optimisation.
