Reservado's pedestrian footbridge
The Reservado footbridge was built in the 1950s along with the canalisation works on the Manzanares River. Its “decoration” and shapes correspond to the “neo-Herrerian” style of those years, but it is an elegant and well-executed construction. The central span is resolved with a very slender reinforced concrete segmental arch built on site. The works to bury the M30 motorway and the neglect of the riverbanks had left it in a semi-ruined state. The project consisted of restoring the structure of the central arch and recovering the original details on the eaves, railings and landings. Only the paving and the lighting project are new, following the patterns of the rest of Madrid Río park. We have tried to recover the value and careful details of an anonymous but robust construction which, beyond stylistic considerations, is in a way exquisite, forming part of a much larger hydraulic engineering complex.
