Metropolitan Gardens
The project is organised in two clearly differentiated layers: an 'L' shaped plinth aligned with the Bolshoi Kikolovorobinsky pereulok that reproduces the scale and character of the rest of the buildings in the neighbourhood, and on the base of this plinth, two more transparent and vertical pieces that are located in the interior of the plot, establishing a closer relationship with the Karpov Institute park and looking south over the banks of the Moskova River.
The base is neutral and unobtrusive, blending naturally into the historic fabric of the street, while the taller pieces have a more iconic character that stands out from the ordinary urban fabric, such as other buildings, palaces and churches or industrial artefacts, found in the centre of Moscow. The arrangement of these elements generates two outdoor spaces, a raised private garden that extends the presence of Karpov Park into the residential complex, and a semi-private street that runs into the plot and provides distance from the adjoining buildings to the south.
