Calvià Social Housing
The rectangular geometry of the plot allows for a very orderly and systematic proposal. The challenge of the project is to make the most of this advantage, which makes it rigorous and economical, without renouncing a certain spatial richness and light and visual intensity. Small movements and dislocations, both in plan and in section, produce varied spaces of very different scales. The systematic nature of the project alludes to the economy, social reason and urban order, but at the same time, the project constructs a vibrant Mediterranean setting for the distinct and specific daily life of each neighbour.
The offset position of the four volumes improves the views and the sunlight of the dwellings, and also helps to configure small spaces, to the north and south of the plot, on a domestic scale, some shaded and others sunny, which, enclosed with ceramic lattices, invite the outdoor life that the Mediterranean climate facilitates almost all year round. The counterpoint also reduces the scale of the complex by reducing the appearance of repetition and adapting it better to the surroundings, and helps to gain spatial and lighting lightness by alternating covered and open spaces with others that are completely uncovered.
