Valdebebas Social Housing

It is a plot on the edge of the new neighbourhood of Valdebebas, where the traces of the new monotonous are blurred and mixed with the irregularity of the pre-existing and where the neighbourhood is more heterogeneous as different morphologies, volumes and people coexist. The project is for a nurses' cooperative with a narrow margin for its design. The urban regulations dictate the volumetry and the building programme, making the most of the buildable area, the type, configuration and size of the dwellings. But the project avoids the closed block and opts for an L-shaped layout linked by a glazed element.

The work consisted of finding firm rules in the regularity in order to gain 'freedom' in small collective elements, linked to the garden and the accesses and in the interior of each dwelling in its relationship with the exterior. We propose a calm urban piece that aspires to be incorporated into the 'anonymous' residential fabric of the city in a natural way, without renouncing the construction of a few intermediate spaces that make the work more sustainable and the exchange between the exterior and the interior richer.
